How to reinstall Windows XP and keep all installed software and settings.

December 5th, 2007 by admin

Have you ever just wished Windows would just install its self without you having to sit and set the options, network options etc? Have you ever wished that it would keep all your software and personal setting?

This tutorial will show you how to use Windows XP unattend function.

BEFORE DOING ANYTHING BACKUP YOUR IMPORTANT FILES, SOFTWARE, PROCESSES AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT YOU DONT WANT TO LOSE.

1. Log into XP and insert your XP install CD.

2. In command prompt cd d: (your cd drive)

3. cd i386

4. type WINNT32 /unattend

And there you go windows should install its self again unattended and with all your software. It should be noted that viruses and malicious software will most likely remain in the new installation. Also this should be done at your own risk! If you stuff up and lose all your files, its your problem!
