So you just forked out a whole wad of cash for the shinny new version of Office 2007…Only to find that your friends, colleagues and lecturers cant open your new files with the .docx extension. You find that you can just do a “save as” to the older .doc format but sometimes you forget and its a hassle. So decide to search the internet for a way to set the default save type, and of course find this site. Well in this article I’ll show you how to set that default save type to something everyone else can open.

To set the default save type:

1. Open Microsoft Word 2007.

2. Click on that new round button at the top left of your screen.

3. Click the “Word Options” button located near the bottom of that menu.

4. Click “save” in the left menu.

5. In the “save files in format” drop down box, select “Word97-2003 Document”.

6. Click the “ok button”.

7. Done :D
